What this is
HouseAfford is a static site. The calculator is client-side TypeScript. There is no application backend, no user accounts, and no loan origination. You can read every assumption on the methodology page.
We publish the tool because most “3× your income” shortcuts ignore the payment that actually clears a debt-to-income test: rate, tax, insurance, HOA, and the other notes already on your credit report.
What this is not

- Not tax, legal, or investment advice.
- Not affiliated with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, or CFPB.
Independence
HouseAfford does not take a referral fee from a loan you originate after using the calculator. If the site shows advertising, those units are labeled and documented in the privacy policy. Ads never change the formula.
Your numbers
Inputs can stay in your browser’s localStorage and in a shareable URL. They are not posted to a HouseAfford server because there is not one for the calculator. See Privacy.
HouseAfford is an educational estimate, not a pre-approval, pre-qualification, or offer to lend. Lenders also weigh credit, assets, employment, property type, and automated underwriting. Actual approval and payment will differ.
